Winston made his way to the location the girl talked about. It was in the country-side. It was not any safer than London, although there were no Tele-Screens, there were concealed microphones that could recognized your voice.
The Carriage he took was filled with Proles; he sat next to a prole woman who was going to the country to acquire some black-market butter. Winston sat in the meadow picking bluebells for the girl.
After 15 minutes the girl came and led Winston to a safer location in the forest. The girl assured Winston there were no hidden microphones, as the trees were too small to hide them. The girl said her name was Julia and that she found the hide-out when she got lost during a community hike. Winston told of how he thought Julia was part of the thought police and that he was planning to kill her and potentially rape her. Julia laughed at this and shared a piece of real chocolate with Winston, not Victory Chocolate which tasted like burnt rubbish.
Julia explained that she was attracted to Winston because she knew he was different compared to everyone else, he did not belong and was against them.
Winston looked around and saw the country-side looked like the Golden Country, a location that he saw in a dream. From his dream he knew that there was also a stream near by that could be swam in. Julia and Winston then listened to a Thrush that landed on a tree above them and sang music.
After listening to the bird, Julia and Winston head back to the hideout where they have sex. Julia had ripped off her clothes just like in Winston's dream and he did not care about the girl and instead saw pleasure in the corruption the girl brought to the Party. Julia also tells Winston that she had done this hundreds of times before, always with Party members and a few times to members of the inner party. Winston was happy of this fact because it destroyed the purity of the Party. Winston said embracing real emotion and desire with a woman was a strike against the Party - it was a political act.
