Julia and Winston make their way back to London a different way than they came. Julia was a leader in the youth anti-sex league and spends a large amount of time there. She says most people do actually have sex and the party can't stop everyone. Julia explains she doesn't want widespread rebellion and only want to outsmart the party for her own personal gain.
At an old church that was hit with an atomic bomb 30 years ago, Winston and Julia meet up. In the fiction department there is a department dedicated to producing porn for the proles, it is called Pornosec.
Julia tells that the Party prevents sex because they can not have anyone happy on their own. If everyone is unhappy then they can believe in the war effort and war leadership. It also makes everyone focus on their duty as a citizen.
Winston says that he took a walk with Katherine, his wife, and considered pushing her off a cliff during a community hike but he decided it would do no good. He said you can never defeat the party and there are only failures in life, but some are less bad than others. Julia doesn't believe the Party can defeat everyone.
