Book 3, Chapter 4

Winston is feeling much better. He has been moved to a cell with a bathtub, toilet, and a mattress and pillow. Winston gets fed 3 meals every 24 hours and every 3rd meal gets meat. He sees that his body is recovering and starts exercising. Soon he runs 3km around his cell then 6km. He still dreams of Julia, O'Brien and the Golden Country. Winston convinces himself that he never should of betrayed the Party and that everything O'Brien had said was right after all. He writes on a small slate that "Freedom is Slavery", "Two and Two make five", and that "God is power". Winston says that freedom is slavery because mankind will fail on their own but once they are stripped of their freedom and join the Party they become immortal and can never die.
Winston soon starts screaming "Julia" in his sleep and believes this will lead to torture and death. Winston remembers that he hates the Party and that he will die hating the Party - and that will be a personal victory. O'Brien also knows that Winston has told everything about Julia but has not betrayed her because he still loves her. O'Brien comes over to Winston and asks if he loves Big Brother. Winston states he will Obey Big Brother but will always hate him. O'Brien states that obeying isn't enough and that Winston must love Big Brother, so O'Brien sends Winston to Room 101.
