Book 2, Chapter 8

Winston and Julia go to O'Briens house together. O'Brien stops what he is doing and turns off the telescreen which surprises Julia and Winston. O'Brien tells Winston he is alone, he can say whatever he wants. Winston says he believes there is a secret organization - the brotherhood, that is against the Party and Big Brother. O'Brien conforms the existence of the Brotherhood and says he and his servant, Martin are part of it. O'Brien shares wine with Julia and Winston and says Golstein is real and leads them through a ritual song to be part of the Brotherhood - the last few lines of the Bells of St. Clement's. O'Brien promises to give Winston a copy of the book of the Brotherhood - the manifesto on revolution by Goldstein himself.
Winston asks O'Brien about his dream and the phrase "in a place with no darkness", O'Brien confirms this be repeating the statement. Winston was told in order to be part of the Brotherhood he needs to be prepared to die or murder anyone. Julie is afraid but agrees too. Winston notices Martin is Eurasian.
